Outfits Perfect for a Summer Afternoon

Here are some patterns I recently made that are perfect for this insane heat wave going on right now...

First off we have one of the first pieces I made, an awesome pair of lightweight denim shorts.  They have a retro vibe with the high-waist, but the bright floral print makes it a little more modern.  Plus, the roomy, flared fit is quite flattering.  I usually pair it with either a neutral camisole (like shown above) or an equally bright tank top tucked in (I'm partial to a plain pink tank top I bought at Target).
Shorts (New Look 6100), camisole (Old Navy), and sweater (American Eagle)

Second is a cute little sundress made of a denim that looks like a lace.  It's fitted at the natural waist and flares out in the skirt.  It looks adorable with or without the belt, but I like the little bit of color that this belt adds to the dress.  It is surprisingly comfortable, too! It can easily be dressed up or down with the right shoes and jewelry.
Dress (Simplicity 1873), belt (Topshop), shoes (Born)
p.s All fabric was bought at JoAnn Fabrics!

Salutations!

Welcome to Of Cupcakes and Cap Sleeves!
I'm Sarah and I love everything fashion-related. I also love baked goods. They are pretty and smell nice. But anyway, here on my shiny, brand-new blog I'll post both DIY projects and patterns I've made. You might occasionally see my sister Anya, who might call herself "super fashionable" although that is quite false. She dresses like Kristen Stewart (which is not necessarily an insult, it really depends on the day). I'll also occasionally write about what's up in the current fashion industry.
I would call my sense of style as retro, classy, and girly, and inspired by British street fashion. Some of my favorite designers are Elie Saab, Marchesa, Dolce&Gabbana, Balmian, and Valentino. Some famous people whose sense of fashion I adore include Emma Stone, Diane Kruger, Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley, and Emma Watson.
